Home Chris Murphy

Kieran on Chris:

For a start, there would be no band today without him. His hard work, perseverence and talent have been a constant force in everything we do. Chris is also one of the most generous people I know, which is a handy trait to have in a brother. Having said that, Chris is also completely unpredictable in his behaviour during shows, which can be scary sometimes for someone as up tight as me. Chris is my favourite rooming buddy on tour , he likes to drink like me, but is willing to keep things tidy, and he takes my criticism of his songs very well when mostly I deserve a punch in the head.

Jason on Chris:

Chris and I are best mates. I love sparring with him on guitar, we have two completely different sounds and his larrikin tomfoolery is always good value on stage. Strangely, I believe Chris only wears red jocks, cos that's all I ever see when he does a semi-nudey run. Unfortunately, bad things seem to happen when we're together, and there are too many to mention here, but he is the only member of the band I can have a 'no owes' policy with, meaning that we share, we don't ask for anything in return, we've got each other's backs.

Shaun on Chris:

Chris works so hard at everything that it often consumes him. A passionate man, with the drive to back it up. I hate writing this stuff... he's so much more than that! I wouldn't be here without him, but he could probably say the same of me. I owe him so much more than I could contemplate. He's funny, light-hearted, overly caring and looking pretty damn good these days. Oh yeah!!

Courtney on Chris:

Chris is the Simon to my Garfunkel. I feel like a useless piece of ginge when I'm next to him onstage. Never far from the limelight, Chris was always the instigator and leader of the band. Without him, ML/ The Rhymes would be without a head, with him, we all have focus and direction and he keeps us well stocked with great original songs. I once tried to keep up with Chris in terms of prolific songwriting and neary had a nervous breakdown! The man is a talented machine!

Clayton on Chris:

“G’day, I’m Chris Murphy”…these were the first words Chris said to me and I was immediately struck by his confidence and friendly, outgoing nature. This has never diminished.  We were both 16 and in the Family Music shop in Albany, separately competing in the busking competition being held there. Our friendship has come a long way and so have we.  Over the years, I have found Chris’s passion about his original music inspiring.  He has such a hunger to perform his own songs to a wider audience and one way or the other, I’m sure he will.  Chris is that rare musician who’s equally at home with an electric guitar in front of a cheering audience, or with an acoustic at a quiet bar.  Chris is also one of my great friends.  Although sometimes our opinions are polar opposites, the love and respect we have for each other is the same.  He’s a generous fellow and the size of his heart is matched only by his talent.
